Likes and dislikes of an argument paper

When writing an argument paper, I like that you are able to write about something that is very controversial. You are able to get your thoughts of the issue in. Also it requires doing research, and the research allows you to read up on the issue. In other words, you learn alot from doing research. Research is sometimes bad too. I dislike how long it takes to do research. It is hard to find accurate resources. Also the style we used is much different than MLA. I am used to MLA so I didn't really like doing APA style. I also dislike that sometimes when writing an argument paper it feels like your yelling rather than telling. You want to tell your audience your position and it tends to feel like yelling.

Argument Ideas

I believe we have learned quite a bit on arguementive papers. It be nice to know how we can make it stronger. Also, we are not supposed to use fallacies, but that is hard to do. So what should we substitute in instead of a fallacy. Also, in an argumentive paper, some people may feel very stongly about a topic and go all out and possibly go too far. What is too far in an argumentive paper.

Argument Audience

My audience for being against abortion would be any girl who is pregnant and not wanting to keep her baby. Michelle is a eighteen year old girl who is in her first year of college. She had one bad night and made one mistake that drastically changed her life. She wanted to continue college and so she knows that she can't keep the baby. She is really looking into abortion. She is not catholic and it is not against her religion. She likes to have fun, stay out late, and be irresponsible. There is no way she can handle having a baby. She tends to get in trouble. She has a couple minors already in her life. She is not very successful in school. For her, the reason for college is to meet new people and have fun. Hopefully after she reads my paper, she will think twice about how bad abortion really is. Also, having the baby could help her change her life from being bad to good.

Argument

My last argument was with my ex boyfriend. He broke it off with me because I was moving down to Mankato for college. We argued for weeks because I didn't believe that's why he ended our relationship. My argument is why would he break it off only because I'm going to college. He claims he wouldn't see me enough. That is not true though. I go back home almost every other weekend. We could see each other during the time I am at home. Plus, he is twenty one, has a full time job, and has a car. The drive from his house is only an hour and a half. If I actually meant anything to him he would have at least tried to make it work. He could have got off work on Friday, drive down and stay all weekend long. He wouldn't have to pay for anything besides the gas to get down here. I would provide him with the food and housing. I just don't agree with him on why he broke up with me. I think the whole college excuse was a big cover-up so it didn't make him look like the bad guy. Obviously I didn't mean enough to him, otherwise it would have worked out.

Appeal to Popularity

The fallacy that I remember the most is the appeal to popularity. This is used all day, everyday by everyone. Now a days, it's all about being the popular one, and doing whatever you have to do to be popular. I would say that it is one of the most often used fallacy. If an action you take increases your popularity, there is a great chance that you will do the action. In high school, this is very true. Once you get to college, it mellows down a little bit but it's still there. Life is all one big competition of popularity.

Personal Essay Reflection

The thing I liked most about writing a personal essay is that you were the source for the paper. This was the only time when I didn't have to do any reasearch. It is much easier to write because it is all about you and is was easy to give details. It is also nice because then when people read your paper, they know something about you. Usually it is something that was important in your life. Its a good way for people to get to know you.

The thing I didn't like about writing a personal essay was that I could have kept writing and writing. The requirements were three to four pages. If I was allowed to, I could have easily spread that story out into five or six pages. That way I could have provided even more detail. I wrote about a bad experience so it was kind of hard to write it down on paper and remember everything that happened to me. That was my choice though. I could have done a good memory but didn't.

Different Culture Experience

The first time I met a different cultured person was when I applied for my first job. I applied at Little Oscar's for a waitressing position. When I walked in for my interview I saw there were two Latino cooks. I introduced myself to them. They shook my hand, looked at me differently, and continued cooking. I got the job. Everytime I worked with them, they got nicer and talked to me more. I noticed they were really hard workers and they were good at what they were doing. I was constantly getting compliments on the food they made. Once we knew each other more, we began to talk alot and became really good friends. They are the people I look forward to working with the most. We get what we need done but still have a good time working. Sometimes customers come in and look at them angrily and I feel really bad. People judge before they should. Also when we work, we talk spanish to each other. They have taught me so much and I love them for it.

My mom's fourwheeler accident

When I was in eleventh grade my mom got in a really bad four wheeler accident. My dad hit a rut in the ground and they were both flown off the four wheeler. They hit the ground hard and then the four wheeler followed and landed right on my mom. My dad was fine. My mom ended up breaking her pelvic bone and was in the hospital for thirteen days. After that, she couldn't walk for months after. During that time I was the mom of the house because I was the oldest daughter. It was very hard to handle because it was stressful enough knowing my mom could have died. I also had to do all the work my mom did like laundry, cooking, taking care of everyone and then go to school. It really changes the way I feel. Before this happened, I guess I didn't ever think about families without a mom. Now whenever I hear a story, I feel really bad and I pray for that family. And if I know the family personally, I do whatever I can to help them because I am so grateful it didnt happen to my family and I.

First Memory

One of the first memories I can ever remember was daycare. I remember when I loved waking up and going to daycare. My daycare providers names were Pat and Dave. They were the nicest people ever. They lived in a yellow house that stuck out compared to all the other houses around. They had a huge backyard full of toys and playsets. Everytime you arrived at their house they would both come and give me a hug. It was great because you knew you were welcomed in. She was the best cook ever and it made me always look forward to lunch. Every Wednesday a girl we called Ms. Mary would come and we would do projects and watch movies together. So everyone was always waiting for Wednesday to roll around so we could see Ms. Mary. Also once a year we would all go on a field trip. I went on two field trips. One time was to the zoo and the other time was to a movie theatre. This was also the time when I made so many friends. Some of them are friends that I still keep in touch with today. For some people, daycare was no fun, but for me it was a good time and it brings back great memories.

Exigence

The last time exigence has made me do something was on move-in day. Last Wednesday we moved onto the MSU campus and into our dorms. My roommate and I were getting all of our stuff organized and put into place. We got everything done but then had to get our computers and printers working. I got my printer working after about a half an hour. I went on organizing some more of my stuff. About a half an hour later I heard my roommate sigh so I looked over and saw she still had'nt got her printer working. After seeing her so down on herself I felt I should help her, so I did. Within ten minutes both of our printers were setup and ready to be used.

1st day of college

Today is August 25th, my first day of college. I was definately a little nervous but so far it's been good. My first class was at eleven in the morning. I woke up at 9:30, which gave me plenty of time to get everything togethere and get ready. At eleven o'clock I have speech class. There is probably a good couple hundred of people in that class. The teacher is really nice and not intimidating at all, which is good to see. My second class was theatre. Again the teacher was really nice and funny. He is a teacher that has alot of extra credit chances. I love that. All I have to do is attend six plays. They might be boring but I get extra credit for them. After my second class, I had lunch with Hannah, a girl I met at orientation. We get along so well. Now I am sitting in english class. Not too bad. I was thinking it was more of a grammar type english instead of a writing class, but I guess writing is a stronger class for me. So no complaining here. After this I plan to go work out. I got to go home looking healthy and hopefully a little skinnier. That's my goal. So far I have no homework so I have the night free. I will probably end up going to Lauren's apartment and chill. Most likely get in a little trouble, like we always do!!
